what spiritual experiences REALLY look like (LOL don’t tell anyone)

“. . . creative flow is always here, and we can tap into it as we move through the natural rhythms of our lives. And we can do this in a way that turns the energy of problems or questions into something of beauty and healing.”

Trina Brunk

I got this text the other day from my friend Deb who was listening to my new album “Serenity”.

She said, “I love the lyrics……“You are beloved, more than you can guess, all the days of your life abundantly blessed. “

It made me so happy 😍 She was referring to the lyrics in my song “Everything I Long For” (I Am that I Am).

I told her that some of my song lyrics, when I write them, feel like my soul is speaking directly to my heart. That particular line is one of them. There are times when I sing those words and can’t hold back the tears. 😭❤️😭

And… what I didn’t mention to Deb was —

I was jumping on the trampoline in our backyard when I ‘received’ some of the key lyrics for that song. 🐸🎶😂

Definitely not the way you might picture a dignified spiritual experience. 😁 just alive and exhilarated and soooo joyful.

I don’t often tell this story because it’s kind of silly.

But it illustrates something I’ve grown to realize, and that fuels my songwriting: that creative flow is always here, and we can tap into it as we move through the natural rhythms of our lives. And we can do this in a way that turns the energy of problems or questions into something of beauty and healing.

More than one of my songs’ melodies or lyrics came to me this way while I was walking or biking,

. . . stirring a pot of soup

. . . or rocking a baby.

And here’s the cool thing: it’s not usually about stopping what you’re doing (except to scribble down some words or make a voice memo); sometimes it’s simply about holding a question or problem gently while bringing a soft, expanded, receptive kind of awareness to all the things that you’re already up to. Kind of like adding leavening in bread, and letting it be as it is . . . and then being ready to take notes when the inspiration hits!!

I would love to hear if this inspires you! If you try what I’m describing please let me know what happens. 👍
